Program Policy’s 1.0 1.2024
1.0 Participant policy:
The training does not discriminate based on race, sex, religion, ethnic origin, or disability. To the extent possible, our training will make reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to access our training. The nature of an Equine, Edventure and Outdoors training requires specific physical demands on individuals and as such, decisions regarding the ability of an individual to participate will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Each participant must be at least 18 years of age and in good physical and mental health. Participants under the age of 18 must have written parental consent. (We require a minimum age of 18). Participants must be physically able to ride a horse, hike and live in high elevations and lift at least 70 pounds of weight chest high.
2.0 Equine Participants
All Equines will need to have prior approval and current Vet Health certs. The equine must be suited for the training. There will be Risks associated with bringing and having equines at the training, CPC hearby informs the participants of the CRS Under Colorado Law, an equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities, pursuant to section 13-21-119, Colorado Revised Statutes.
3.0 Helmet Policy:
Proper Equine Helmets’ are recommended for equine activity’s. Participants under the age of 18 will be required to wear ASTM standard F1163-15 properly fitting in good condition helmet for equine activity’s.
4.0 Costs and Fees Policy:
Each participant must provide payment deposit at the time the enrollment application is submitted. Deposit with all participants applications is 50% of class tuition and balance due 45 days prior to class start date and is non-refundable and non-transferable.
5.0 Enrollment:
Prospective participants may enroll at any time, however the number of participants accepted is limited and participants are admitted on a first come first serve basis. The enrollment is limited to small participant group per training.
6.0 Equine and Personal Risk and Liability:
Participants are required to sign an “ EQUINE RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT ” form for accident and/or illness . The form will be distributed on course start date. Participant are urged to carry personal medical insurance coverage in case of illness or injury.

7.0 Transportation:
It is recommended that participants have their own transportation. However, if you plan to fly, arrange flights to and from the area, DRO Airport, arriving the day before class starts and schedule flights out the day after class ends. We would be happy to recommend a quality motel. Transportation to and from the airport can be provided for a $150 pickup fee.
Pagosa Springs is a twenty-minute drive from Ranchito Alegre. There is a Laundromat and Library , Walmart, Tractor Supply, Durango is an hour drive and has more. Travel In the area can be risky due to weather, snow, ice, mud, floods, can all change the conditions of travel here in the Colorado mountains.
If you are transporting equines, please be aware of the local mountains and conditions, hauling equines has its own parameters and might need to be considered when scheduling a training.
8.0 Participant Conduct Policy:
Safety is first and foremost in all our activities. Any participant who willfully or irresponsibly causes another participant, instructor, or livestock to be placed in jeopardy may be immediately dismissed at the discretion of the head instructor or training administrator. Participants are expected to cooperate, act maturely, be helpful and respect other participants, instructors and other staff members at all times. Dismissal may also occur when a participant displays an uncooperative attitude towards the trainings faculty or fellow participants. The training reserves the right to be the sole judge of such conduct, which may be detrimental to the training. Other grounds for dismissal or termination include but are not limited to:
Cheating, dishonesty, stealing, falsifying records.
Excessive absenteeism or tardiness.
Fighting. Unethical , immoral, unprofessional, or unlawful conduct.
Use of intoxicating liquors and/or drugs.
Misuse or abuse of equipment, animals or training property.
Intentional disruption of training activities. (use of electronics, earbuds are a problem)
Physical abuse or sexual harassment, verbal abuse, of any person on training premises.
Threatening or endangering the health or safety of any person on training premises.
Theft or damage to the Premise, training property or equipment.
Unauthorized use or entry into the premise or training facilities.
Participants dismissed from the course will not be allowed to re-enter and are liable for all costs associated with the situation.
9.0 Attendance Policy:
Participants are expected to attend classes daily for the full time allotted. Two unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the training. Participants are expected to be punctual and actively take part in all classes and training sessions. Participants will be expected to stay within the training perimeter unless participant has verbal/ text authorization from an instructor.
10.0 Schedule:
Due to our small enrollment and the nature of our subject matter, the schedule is flexible and is adjusted daily to meet the needs of participants and other circumstances, such as the weather conditions or unexpected learning opportunities. Participants will receive training hours of instruction per program. The training requires the personnel work, class work, classroom and online , and hands on instruction and homework practice and studies.
11.0 Personal Supplies and Equipment:
The Premise and training is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen articles. Participants are responsible to secure all personal items to prevent any losses. All personal items should be marked with the participants name or initials. All personal gear is to be inspected and in good working condition or it will not be allowed in the program for use. Guns may be brought but not out /carried unless used during training hours or on training property for insurance reasons. Training can cover firearm use and best practices.
As a minimum, you should have all the items on the below list when you come. As you go through the training and on to a job, you will have a much better idea of what you will need and want for further gear. 12.0 Program itinerary
12.1 The course is divided into 18 sections that are in chronical time order of backcountry trips.
12.2 Records. The training holds all participant records. Participants may review their records at any time and may request to go over them with the us. The training may authorize release of participants records for a participants needs per their written requests.
12.3 Participants are taught in an outdoor setting (come seasonally prepared to be outside) just as they will be using the equines in the outdoors. All Participants must comply with location rules and regulations. Light on the Land BMPS.
12.4 The training equipment used is varied and extensive. It basically consists of all gear, equipment and stock that is needed and used to travel in the Backcountry.
13.0 Refund Policy:
Most program expenses are incurred while preparing for the applicant to attend a training. Our cancellation and refund policy reflect the fact that it is impossible to recover these costs for late cancellations, no-shows, or withdrawals from the training.
A full refund of the deposit will be issued if the applicant is not accepted by the training, the course is full, or the course is cancelled. Note; these are the only circumstances upon which a deposit is refunded.
Participants who leave a course once it has begun, whether it is due to sickness, dismissal, withdrawal, or any other reason, will not be entitled to refunds of any tuition, fees or deposits.
Due to the small nature of our business, our refund policy for monies paid is that all monies paid are non-refundable and non-transferable, and are considered as partial payment for the services of reserving time and space on the schedule and advance preparation of equipment and supplies.
